The Day You Felt Burnout
I get it, I have been where you are. Running through life, there's so much to get done! Sometimes feeling like you're at your breaking point, but people need you! You can't say no now! I mean really, who would do these things if you didn't?
Soo many balls in the air. You are checking things off your list, waaahooo! You are running here, running there, getting things done!
Your kids are A+ students, star athletes. All of these things aren't bad are they? I mean they can be amazing motivation to get you out of bed, help you feel purposeful until...
That day you wake up and you realize that a whole week or even a month flew by. You were so busy at work, running errands, taking the kids to soccer, & band; making sure they got their homework done, that you had not even asked your husband, "how are you? What's going on in your life?" You forgot to ask your kids what fun things they did with their friends this week. You just asked, are we good? Okay let's get in the car we are late!
You realized that you had not even checked in with yourself or with God.
That's the morning you had a hard time getting out of bed. That's the day the rush of adrenaline that had been keeping you up and running wore off. That's the day you noticed you felt as though you were falling, falling...
Perhaps, that familiar dark cloud floats in, and those thoughts start wreaking havoc in your mind. You know the ones, the thoughts that say, "your not good enough, smart enough, perfect enough. Why bother, you have no purpose... and on it goes.
Now on top of it all you can't sleep because those thoughts, the worry, the fear are taking up the best hours of your night. You get up and start working again, or you lay there staring at the ceiling, feeling more and more frustrated that you can't sleep! Aggghhh!
You are not alone. We live in a society that fuels this kind of lifestyle. If we are going to be "successful" we have to keep up. Even our churches promote this kind of mindset. If we aren't doing, (they call it "serving") then we aren't good enough Christians. But that's another topic for another day.
So now what? You are at your limit, you feel like you're in a hole, you have little motivation, you just want to sleep all day. You feel life has become dull. You are having a hard time answering the question, who am I & what matters most in my life?

It can help you sleep better. A University of Utah study found that mindfulness training can not only help us better control our emotions and moods, but it can also help us sleep better at night.
Meditation helps you to stay centered when you inevitably encounter those everyday irritations and stressors - for example rush hour traffic. Investigators from the Benson-Henry Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital found that practicing meditation causes what is called the “relaxation response,” the opposite of the “fight-or-flight” response—what happens to our bodies when we get stressed. Their studies showed that the relaxation response alleviates anxiety and also has positive effects on heart rate, blood pressure, and brain activity.
Meditation can Increases Gray Matter - A 2005 study on American men and women who meditated a mere 40 minutes a day showed that they had thicker cortical walls than non-meditators. What this meant is that their brains were aging at a slower rate. Cortical thickness is also associated with decision making, attention and memory.
Lowers stress - It’s not only associated on feeling less stress, it’s shown to actually decrease levels of the stress hormone called cortisol.
It helps us realize what really Matters Most in our Lives! It reconnects us with God in a deeper way and replaces that dark cloud with light.
No, it's not a magic pill, but it sure can help us find that balance we all are craving in our lives.
